3.3 Evaluating Solutions
This activity models evaluating competing ideas and different ways to address problems.
a. Compare two solutions to human impact on the earth: one focused on policy using the case studies from the Living Planet Report (beginning on page 100) and one focused on engineering using the following articles:
-Climate Engineering Reconsidered
-Geoengineering is Not a Solution to Climate Change
b. Evaluate the solutions using the Rubric to Assess Solutions to Human Impacts. Sample criteria: The solution addresses root causes, it is based on scientific evidence. The exercise of evaluating solutions is an example of the Common Core skills on using evidence.
