5.1. Generating Learning Outcomes - Big Ideas

a. Read about Big Ideas in the Inquiry as Narrative booklet beginning on page 15 of the document (not the pdf page numbers). Print out page 15. Complete the activity on page 15 in which you generate learning outcomes using different approaches to the wording.

b. Read page 16 of the document.

c. Using the directions on page 17 of the document, generate big ideas for your lesson. Use the criteria provided to self-evaluate them. Write your big ideas into the template.

d. In your journal respond to these questions: Describe the process for generating these big ideas. Was it difficult? How did the big ideas compare with other outcomes you generated on page 15 (i.e. those without the word "that")?

e. Share two of your big ideas in the online forum titled "Curriculum Applications Forum". Comment on another person’s big ideas: Are they the right “grain size” for a specific lesson? Are they assessable?
